Ball, who had just returned to the Bulls this season after a lengthy absence due to leg injuries, suffered a setback one week into the 2024-25 season during Chicago's thrilling 126-123 victory against the Memphis Grizzlies. Despite the injury, he managed to play for 18 minutes in the game, contributing six points and six assists to the team's success.

The Bulls acquired Ball from New Orleans in a sign-and-trade deal prior to the 2021-22 season. He got off to a good start in Chicago, averaging 13 points and 5.1 assists while shooting 42.3% on 3-pointers over 35 games before being derailed.
