The city of Lucknow, known as the city of Nawabs, is set to host the historic rivalry between Mohun Bagan and East Bengal on September 2nd, marking a significant moment in promoting football in Uttar Pradesh. The much-anticipated derby will take place at the K.D. Singh Babu Stadium, with preparations in full swing for this exciting match under the floodlights. State Sports Director R.P. Singh has confirmed that Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is expected to attend the event, along with an estimated 10,000 enthusiastic spectators who are anticipated to fill the stadium to capacity.
As part of the preparations, the testing of the recently-installed flood lights in the stadium has started and dressing rooms and other facilities are being arranged for the players.
Singh said that All India Football Federation (AIFF) President Kalyan Chaubey had met Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in Lucknow recently and expressed the need to promote football in Uttar Pradesh.
It was during that time, that he had proposed to organise the derby and the state government accepted the proposal.
